Shooting: A new place to shoot is opening to the public starting Saturday. The Holly Shelter Shooting Range in Rocky Point will be open 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 1:30-5:30 Sundays. The Pender County-operated facility, at 8718 Shaw Highway, will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
The facility will offer a 200-yard rifle range and a 50-yard pistol range, each with 12 shooting stations. For archers, a target range and a 20-station 3D course are available.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission said in a news release that the $1.5 million project was funded through the Pittman Robertson Federal Grant Funds, the Wildlife Endowment Fund and a National Rifle Association Public Range Fund grant.
