A day after taking the first blue marlin to the scales, local charter boat Run-Off maintained the lead 59th Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament being held June 12-17 out of Morehead City.
Seventeen blue marlin were released Tuesday, the last two by Reel Affair and Fender Bender just after fishing ended at 3 p.m. No team boated a blue marlin to weigh. Eleven white marlin and three sailfish also were released. Teams earn points for the billfish releases.
In gamefish divisions, Doc Fees leads with a 97.7-pound wahoo, and Islander has a 69.1-pound dolphin. No boat has weighed in a tuna.
Run-Off leads with a 533.8-pound blue marlin that earned the $467,500 Fabulous Fisherman’s prize for first 500-pounder. Weldor’s Ark of Greenville held second at 484.9 pounds, and White Caps of Wilson was in third at 417.7.
