The bite was back on Wednesday for the 57th Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament off Morehead City, but releases and thrown hooks were the story of the day. Except for the Reel Pleasure.
The outboard that lost one of its engines had a tow vessel escort, but it reached port for an evening celebration. Captain Jeff Kinyo of Raleigh and the OBX Boatworks 3321’s crew were rewarded for a long day and a 3-1/2-hour fight when their blue marlin weighed in at 451.8 pounds to take first place in the new outboard category.
The Viking 62 out of New Jersey maintained the lead with a 680-pound blue marlin caught Monday, when four of the big fish were weighed in.
Three days remain in the six-day chase for a $1.63 million prize. Follow the fishing at www.thebigrock.com or on Twitter at @bigrockfishing.
