Former Devil will play for New Zealand

Former Duke player Rebecca Smith has been chosen for the New Zealand women's soccer team that will compete in the Beijing Games.

Smith and 17 other women will comprise the first women's soccer team to represent the country at the Olympic Games.

Smith, whose parents are from New Zealand, lettered four seasons as a defender at Duke from 1999 to 2002 and was captain in 2002.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL: Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs finished second in the Moscow Grand Slam over the weekend to earn enough points to clinch the second American women's berth for the Beijing Games. Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal also clinched an Olympic berth.

SOCCER: Ronaldinho and Robinho will try to lead Brazil to its first Olympic gold medal in soccer at the Beijing Games. The Barcelona star, Robinho and 16 others were selected by coach Dunga on Monday.
