RailHawks tie Whitecaps

The Carolina RailHawks (4-4-8) began the second half of their season with a 1-1 tie against the host Vancouver Whitecaps (7-4-3) on Sunday night.

RailHawks forward Dan Antoniuk scored his third goal of the season, volleying in a header from the RailHawks' newest signing, Hamed Diallo, in the 74th minute. Vancouver responded in the 75th when Eduardo Sebrango scored to force the tie.

The RailHawks return home to play the Puerto Rico Islanders on Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Railhawks women lose

Sarah Steinmann and Christine Latham each scored a goal as the host Atlanta Silverbacks beat the Carolina RailHawks Women 2-0 on Friday night.

The Silverbacks (8-0-0) are the only team to defeat the RailHawks (4-2-1) in their inaugural season. The RailHawks will play Sunday in Tampa, Fla., against the Tampa Bay Hellenic.

RailHawks Women win, 4-1

The Carolina RailHawks Women controlled play throughout to beat the Hampton Roads Piranhas 4-1 on Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. N.C. State standout Lindsay Vera, Duke midfielder Kendall Bradley, Georgia All-America Carrie Patterson and W-League veteran Ali Baker each tallied a goal for the RailHawks (5-3-1).

Kelly Morrison scored in the 81st minute for the Piranhas (3-5) to deny RailHawks goalkeeper Molly Baird her first shutout of the season.

Islanders and RailHawks

ISLANDERS 1, RAILHAWKS 0: Christian Arrieta headed in a goal off an assist by Jonny Steele in the 38th minute Sunday to lift the Puerto Rico Islanders over the Carolina Railhawks at Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

The RailHawks' newest acquisition, Ron Cerritos, made his debut at forward alongside Hamed Diallo, and Joey Worthen returned to the Carolina starting lineup at defender after being sidelined by a hamstring injury for most of the season.

The RailHawks will host the Montreal Impact at 7:30 p.m. Friday at WakeMed Soccer Park.

RailHawks can't hold on

Hamed Diallo scored a hat trick, but the Carolina RailHawks lost 4-3 to the host Seattle Sounders on Sunday night.

Five minutes into the second half, Diallo scored his third goal to give Carolina a 3-2 lead. The RailHawks' advantage lasted until the 63rd minute when Josh Gardner scored his second goal of the match. The winning goal came just two minutes later in the 65th minute when Sebastien Letoux picked up a loose ball in the box and tallied his 11th goal of the season.
