Green Hope plays Leesville Road today, 2007 4-A champion Broughton on Friday and state 4-A runner-up Greensboro Grimsley on Tuesday.

THE BRITTANY: Green Hope's 4 p.m. game on Friday against Broughton is part of the fourth annual The Brittany in Wilson.

The two-day boys soccer showcase has 58 teams spread through 32 games at the Gillette Athletic Complex. Other area teams are Millbrook, Leesville Road, Cary Academy, North Johnston, Panther Creek, West Johnston, East Chapel Hill, East Wake, Raleigh Grace and Wakefield.

HERALD CUP: The annual Herald Cup boys soccer tournament will be held at North Johnston on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In the openers on Monday, Johnston Christian plays Clayton at 5 p.m. and Smithfield-Selma plays North Johnston at 7.

West Johnston, the 2007 champ, and South Johnston have first-round byes and begin play on Wednesday at 5 and 7 p.m.

The final is on Thursday.

GARNER GETS SEVEN: Eli Garner, who led the area boys soccer players with 37 goals and 25 assists in 2007, scored seven goals in Cedar Ridge's 11-0 victory over Southern Vance on Tuesday.

SIDBURY AT TOPSAIL: Shawn Sidbury led Wilmington Hoggard to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A football championship in 2007 but has returned to Hampstead Topsail, where he played as a freshman.

He was the MVP of the championship game as Hoggard finished 15-0 record. He rushed for 1,600 yards and was an outstanding defensive back.

Topsail finished 8-4 in 2007.
