CARY -- The Carolina RailHawks suffered their first home defeat of the season at the hands of the Seattle Sounders on Friday night.

Sebastien Le Toux's goal in the 35th minute gave the Sounders (5-4-4) a 1-0 win over the RailHawks (3-3-5) at SAS Soccer Park.

The RailHawks, fielding the same lineup that delivered four goals against RWB Adria in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, started strong by creating scoring chances early in the match. Midfielder Joey Worthen had a couple of early shots that ended high or out.

The Sounders responded almost immediately with Le Toux, who showed his speed by engaging the RailHawks' defense in several saves or deflections to set the pace for the match.

The game's only goal came in the 35th minute when Danny Jackson stole a ball from David Stokes and played it into Le Toux. The Sounder chipped it over RailHawks goalie Chris McClellan and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Le Toux's other goal this season was also against the RailHawks, a game-winner in late May.

"I had many opportunities to score, and they kept going out," said Le Toux. "My coach asked me to be fast for the team and I had the opportunity to score the same goal against Carolina for the second time."

The RailHawks seemed to pick up the pace in the second half with coach Scott Schweitzer making a few adjustments and substitutions, but Sounders goalkeeper Chris Eylander proved to be too tough to crack.

Five of Eylander's seven saves happened during the final 45 minutes.

"It's definitely disappointing," said RailHawks assistant coach Damon Nahas. "We didn't give 100 percent tonight, but not for a lack of effort, more for a lack of discipline at times. We had few chances, but tonight was probably one of our poorest performances."

The RailHawks next face the Charleston Battery at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 23.

In a continuation of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Carolina will host Bavarian SC, an amateur team from Milwaukee, Wis., at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26.
