Wisconsin entered Friday's game with the glittering defensive resume, yet Davidson outworked the Badgers during the second half.

Max Paulhus Gosselin, Stephen Curry and Andrew Lovedale led that charge, fighting through screens and challenging shots.

Wisconsin shot just 23 percent after halftime, and Davidson also seized command on rebounds.

Wisconsin had held opponents to 54 points a game, but Davidson's chasing style kept the Badgers off-balance. Wisconsin forced up 3-pointers under pressure and never got into rhythm.

"We could not surrender out there," Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. "We had to stay aggressive, and it paid off."

Davidson's offense also got a boost from point guard Jason Richards.

Richards scored 11 points, but more important, he had 13 assists and no turnovers.

"To do what he did out there was outstanding," McKillop said. "You can't play better than that."

CURRY TIES 3-POINTERS RECORD: Stephen Curry is not only averaging 34 points in three NCAA Tournament wins, but he also has tied the NCAA record for 3-pointers in a season with 158 heading into Sunday's regional final.

OBSERVATIONS: Ford Field had more than 57,000 fans, but that quantity couldn't match the quality of the crowd Davidson had in Raleigh.

Since the seats were so far away from courtside, cheers for Davidson couldn't be distinguished from those for Wisconsin.

* One of Stephen Curry's growing list of fans stopped by for a radio interview at halftime on Friday night.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James said earlier this week that Curry could play in the NBA, and he didn't back down from that statement Friday night.

"Absolutely," James told the Davidson radio network when asked whether Curry could play in the NBA. "People worry about his size, but he can eat right and work in the weight room, and that will come."

* Wisconsin had a size advantage against Davidson, but the Badgers didn't exploit it early. Wisconsin shot 17 3-pointers in the first half, and just eight more shots from inside the arc. The Badgers stayed in the game by hitting eight 3-pointers and holding Davidson to seven total rebounds.

* Davidson got a boost from its bench in the first half. Will Archambault and Bryant Barr combined for three 3-pointers, and that helped Davidson survive without forward Andrew Lovedale, who played just eight minutes with foul trouble.

* Wisconsin lost starting point guard Trevon Hughes to an ankle injury early in the first half, but backup Jason Bohannon gave the Badgers a boost. He scored 11 points and had three assists.
