TAMPA, FLA. -- Some two hours before tipoff for the women's Final Four, arena employees were scrambling to take care of multiple leaks in the roof of the St. Pete Times Forum -- including one that dripped water near the top of the 3-point arc across from the Connecticut bench.
Workers hundreds of feet above the court were assessing the problem, while others below initially used paper towels to handle the problem and clean up the water. It poured enough outside that fans came in drenched.
But Stanford and UConn were still able to get their pregame warmups done without any major holdups.
The leak was noticed around 4 p.m., and eventually workers were sent to the rafters and up on the roof to address the issue. Workers hung a bucket from the ceiling to try to catch drops.
FINAL FOUR MEMORIES: Rebecca Lobo believes there was more pressure on Connecticut's players at this Final Four than when she led the Huskies to an undefeated season and their first national title in 1995.
The Huskies, who lost 82-73 to Stanford on Sunday, have become a national power since then.
In those days, the championship and semifinals were played within 24 hours, so Lobo says she and her teammates had no time to think about what was on the line.
"It was just a lot of fun and very different from the feel that there is now because it was new and fresh and unexpected and there was just a happy-go-lucky Brady Bunch feel to it," said Lobo, who is working the Final Four as a sideline reporter for ESPN.
