New Bern ended Charlotte Independence string of NCHSAA 4-AA championships with a 28-17 victory. Nick DeMuro of Athens Drive passed for more than 4,000 yards and Leesville Road quarterback Thomas Wilson led the Pride to the state 4-AA semifinals. Millbrook put together a late-season surge that pushed it to the third round and a 40-38 loss to the eventual champions.
