Free-agent linebacker Rosevelt Colvin signed with the Houston Texans on Monday, giving the team another pass rusher to pair with 2006 No. 1 draft pick Mario Williams.

Colvin spent five years with the New England Patriots and was a member of two Super Bowl winning teams but was released in February. He missed the last five regular-season games and the playoffs with a foot injury.

His 14 sacks last season tied for third in the NFL, but the Texans didn't get much pressure on the quarterback outside his work.

"My passion is rushing the passer," Colvin said. "It's something I feel like I do well."

The 30-year-old had 52 1/2 sacks in nine seasons with the Patriots and the Chicago Bears. The Texans have discussed the possibility of using him at defensive end as well as linebacker.

"I feel like I'm versatile enough to play a couple of different positions. So whether or not I'll be playing offensive line or quarterback, defensive end or linebacker, it remains to be seen," the 6-foot-3, 250-pound athlete said, joking. "As we try to go forward from here, the most important thing is that I remain healthy. I'll try to get my role and what that's going to be."

Terms of the deal were not revealed.

FALCONS RESERVE SAFETY CHARGED: Atlanta Falcons reserve safety Daren Stone has been arrested on a drunk-driving charge.

Police said the second-year player was taken into custody early Sunday. He was released from the Atlanta City Jail late Sunday on bonds totaling almost $1,600.

Stone, 22, appeared in 12 games last season and was credited with nine solo tackles. He was a sixth-round draft pick in 2007 out of Maine.

METLIFE IS FIRST MEADOWLANDS STADIUM SPONSOR: MetLife Inc. became the first of five major sponsors for the new Meadowlands stadium the New York Giants and the New York Jets will call home.

The deal was announced Monday, with no word on how much the insurance and financial services company will pay the teams for the advertising space.

A marketing expert said the deal could bring in $10 million to $15 million annually.

NFL HIRES ACCORSI: Former New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi has been hired as a consultant to the NFL and will be co-chairman of a new general managers advisory committee.

NFL executive vice president Ray Anderson said Accorsi will focus on assisting the league in monitoring compliance with rules and policies and achieving better communication with senior club football personnel.

T.O. CALLS IN FAVORS FOR A-LIST COUNSELORS: Like many players, Terrell Owens is running a football camp for kids this summer.

Others, however, don't have the caliber of counselors Owens is bringing to the Dallas area.

Want to run faster? Former 100-meter world record-holder Maurice Greene will teach that.

Need life skills? Michael Irvin is expected to offer advice on how to avoid the mistakes he made; perhaps Adam "Pacman" Jones, too. How about some tips on scoring touchdowns and celebrating them? T.O. will gladly handle those topics himself.

"It's going to be a fun time," Owens said. "And an educational time for them, as well."

This will be the third year Owens runs a camp but the first time he's tapped into his address book for celebrity sizzle.

Considering he just signed a $34 million contract extension, Owens certainly isn't doing it for the money -- $195 per child ages 7-17, for the July 9-10 event.

Owens said he's doing it to be more active in the community.

GODDARD DIES IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT: Former NFL player and Marshall defensive end Johnathan Goddard of Stark, Fla., died early Sunday after a motorcycle accident near Jacksonville, Fla.

Goddard was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL draft. He later played briefly for the Indianapolis Colts and the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush.
