Chad Holbrook, who has been a part of the North Carolina baseball program since 1990, has accepted a position as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at South Carolina, Gamecocks coach Ray Tanner said Monday.

Holbrook, who was a standout player at UNC from 1990-93, joined the UNC coaching staff as an assistant coach in 1994 and was promoted to associate head coach in June 2007. He also served as the Tar Heels' recruiting coordinator.

Tanner is a N.C. State alum and was the head coach of the Wolfpack from 1988-1996.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

BREY GETS TWO-YEAR EXTENSION: Mike Brey, the Big East coach of the year the past two seasons, has agreed to a two-year contract extension at Notre Dame through the 2014-15 season.

Brey, 49, has a 167-86 record in eight years at Notre Dame, including five NCAA Tournament bids. The Irish were 25-8 last season and will have back all but one player from that team.

Brey's career record as a head coach is 266-138 in 13 seasons, including five years at Delaware. He was a longtime assistant to Mike Krzyzewski at Duke before taking the job at Delaware.

GEORGIA FRESHMAN TRANSFERS: Georgia freshman Jeremy Jacob will transfer after a foot injury limited him to six games last year.

The 6-foot-7 player averaged 5.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in the first six games of the 2007-08 season before suffering a stress fracture in his left foot. He was granted a medical hardship by the NCAA, leaving him with four years of eligibility.

WINGATE TABS GOOD: Wingate University has hired Brian Good as men's basketball coach. Good succeeds Parker Laketa, who resigned this spring after eight seasons with the Division II South Atlantic Conference school.

Good spent the past four seasons as coach at Division II Queens University of Charlotte. The Royals were 72-45 overall and earned NCAA Tournament berths in his final two seasons.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

RALPH RETURNS TO UCONN: Shea Ralph, captain of Connecticut's 2000 NCAA championship team, will return as an assistant coach. The former Fayetteville Terry Sanford High star served the past five seasons as assistant coach at Pittsburgh.

LADY VOL HAS SURGERY: Tennessee guard Angie Bjorklund has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her right knee.

The rising sophomore is expected to fully recover in four to six weeks. Bjorklund started 30 of 38 games and averaged 8.6 points for the NCAA champions.

FOOTBALL

IU QB REINSTATED: Indiana junior quarterback Kellen Lewis was reinstated to the team Monday after a four-month suspension.

The school never explained why Lewis, a second-team All-Big Ten pick in 2007, was suspended in March. But coach Bill Lynch said his star player did what was necessary to return to the team.

VOLS PUNTER GUILTY OF DUI: Tennessee punter Britton Colquitt will spend 24 hours picking up litter and lose his license for a year after he pleaded guilty Monday to drunken driving.

Colquitt, 23, also received a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, a $350 fine and court costs, a 24-hour detention in jail and must attend DUI school.
