Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Offshore, there have been catches of white marlin, a few wahoo, dolphin, blackfin tuna and citation-sized yellowfin tuna. Nearshore, flounder, sea bass, albacore, bluefish, triggerfish, Spanish mackerel, puppy drum, speckled and grey trout are around. Buxton/Hatteras

Up and down the beach, it has been a good week so far, with a lot of bluefish, puppy drum, a few yearling drums and lots of spots and sea mullet. A few keeper flounder at Hatteras Inlet and along south beach. Offshore, wahoo and dolphin were landed. Nearshore, grey trout and bluefish caught. Ocracoke/Portsmouth

The remains of Hurricane Fred came ashore earlier this week and stirred up the surf, but a mixed bag of puppy drum, yearling drum, bluefish, sea mullet, a few flounder and Spanish have been caught. Cape Lookout/

Bogue Inlet

Surf fishing has picked up, with pompano, red drum and spots. Sea mullet have begun to show around the Cape Lookout rock jetty. Spanish, blues and pompano have been biting at Bogue Pier. Inside, drum have been biting well in the marshes. Offshore, wahoo have bit well from the 90-foot drop to Big Rock. Contact: EJW Outdoors 252-247-4725; www.ncwater man.com ; or www.ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

On the piers, some large king mackerel were landed. Bluefish, spots and mullet have been caught. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoast sports.com .

Wilmington/

Wrightsville Beach

Offshore, it has been tough to get out. Nearshore, lots of Spanish and false albacore caught casting jigs and trolling spoons. Inshore, flounder, speckled trout and red drum taking scented soft plastics and on live finger mullet. On the beach, some nice Virginia mullet and pompano showing up. King mackerel taking live bait anywhere from the beach out to 10 miles out. Contact: Tex's Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Some spots and some trout down at the point. Some spots at the pier. There were bluefish and Spanish there over the weekend, but that's slowed some. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; www.yeahrightcharters.com; or www.oi fishingcenter.com .

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Schools of shad are starting to move up to the creek mouths, and bass anglers have had luck here, breaking up those schools when they spot them and chasing them up the creeks. Kerr Lake

Fishing has been tough. A few largemouth on top-waters early and late, but during the day, it has been a Carolina rig. Flathead and blue catfish biting shad and live bream. Crappie are deep with the lake so low. Find deep brush and use minnows. Water level: normal300, Wednesday 294.88, full pool 320. Contact: Buggs Island Bait & Tackle 434-374-8934; www.kerrlake.com.

Jordan Lake

A decent crappie bite on minnows around bridge pilings and brush piles. Largemouth bass are relating to the channels. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 212.47, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; www.carolinaoutdoors.net.

Shearon Harris Lake

The largemouth bass bite has gotten a little bit tougher, but fish will still go for plastic worms worked along deeper weed edges. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
