Daniel Keon scored twice, Cornell Glen added a goal and Trinidad and Tobago used superior size and strength to beat host Cuba 3-1 Wednesday night as the semifinal round of World Cup qualifying began in the North and Central American and Caribbean region qualifying.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER: Taylor Twellman had a goal and assist, and the host New England Revolution beat D.C. United for the first time in two years, 2-1 Wednesday night.

CLAVIJO RESIGNS: Fernando Clavijo is resigning as Colorado Rapids coach because of personal reasons, and assistant Gary Smith will take over as interim coach.

KOREAS TO PLAY IN QUALIFYING: North Korea will play its World Cup qualifying match against South Korea in Shanghai. North Korea will be the home team for the Sept. 10 game, FIFA said Wednesday.

ARSENAL SIGNS FORMER MAN U. DEFENDER: Arsenal signed French defender Mikael Silvestre on a two-year deal Wednesday from Manchester United, the first time the team bought a player from its rival since 1974.
