It was hump day for Campbell

"Camels over hump" read the headline in Wednesday's News & Observer for a story on Campbell University football.

Perhaps, but when will sports writers get over it?

There isn't much to say, after all, about a camel except to joke about its anatomy.

Without mercy, opposing fans gleefully chanted, "Hump, hump, hump the Camels!"

This carries unfortunate connotations that the staid founders of this Baptist institution did not anticipate when choosing a nickname.

I was then, and am still, at loss for a retort. Frankly, I'm humped ... er, stumped.
