Pirates-Pack set for noon

Sept. 20 game will be on television

The East Carolina-at-N.C. State football game on Sept. 20 has been scheduled for noon on ESPN or ESPN2, ACC officials announced Monday.

In other Sept. 20 games involving North Carolina schools:

* Wake Forest will start at 7 p.m. at Florida State on ESPN2.

* Virginia Tech's game a at North Carolina will start either at noon for a Raycom Sports broadcast or 3:30 p.m. in an ABC regional broadcast. The kickoff time will be announced Sunday.

CLEMSON TACKLE DOUBTFUL FOR PACK: Clemson offensive tackle Chris Hairston is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against N.C. State after bruising his knee during a motor scooter accident.

School spokesman Tim Bourret said in a release that Hairston's status will be updated after practice on Thursday.

MIAMI BACK INJURED: Miami running back Javarris James has a high left ankle sprain that could keep him out of the Canes' game on Sept. 20 at Texas A&M.

ACC HONORS: Wake Forest's Riley Skinner and Sam Swank have earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Skinner was chosen offensive back of the week Monday after throwing for 267 yards in the 30-28 win against Mississippi.

Swank was chosen specialist of the week after kicking the last-second field goal for the win.

The ACC also honored Florida State's Rodney Hudson as the top offensive lineman; Georgia Tech's Darryl Richard as the top defensive lineman; N.C. State's Nate Irving at defensive back; and Duke's Johnny Williams as rookie of the week.

ECU'S ESKRIDGE HONORED: East Carolina junior safety Van Eskridge was voted Conference USA's defensive player of the week after helping the Pirates defeat then-No. 8 West Virginia 24-3.

Eskridge recorded a game-high 10 tackles and forced a fumble, which led to ECU's second touchdown.

CIAA HONORS: Sophomore defensive end Marcus Crump of St. Augustine's was chosen the defensive lineman of the week in the CIAA. He made 11 tackles for the Falcons.

BASKETBALL

LAETTNER'S NEPHEW COMMITS TO IRISH: The nephew of former Duke player Christian Laettner has made an oral commitment to play basketball at Notre Dame.

Mike Broghammer is a 6-foot-8 senior at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minn.

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey was an assistant at Duke when Laettner played there.

MONDAY'S RESULTS

WOMEN'S GOLF

NCAA FALL PREVIEW: Duke finished eighth and Wake Forest ninth in the three-day event at Owings Mills, Md.

Duke, ranked third nationally, had a 34-over-par total of 898 and Wake Forest was at 908.

Virginia, the only other ACC team in the 15-team field, finished third at 883, 11 strokes behind winner Arizona State.

Duke's top individuals were Mina Harigae and Amanda Blumenherst, who tied for 14th.
