UNCA's 7-foot-7 George injured

UNC-Asheville's Kenny George, at 7 feet 7 the nation's tallest college basketball player, might not play this season because of a foot injury.

George had two surgical procedures on an infected right foot and remains in a Chicago hospital, the school said. The senior is not expected to return to school this semester.

MISCELLANEOUS

The annual motorcycle "Ride with the Voice" charity event -- hosted by ECU play-by-play announcer Jeff Charles -- is set for Oct. 4.

Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. at J&E Harley-Davidson in Greenville, and the ride to Washington begins at 10.

Cost is $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. The ride helps raise money for the Heather Anne Purtee Memorial Scholarship at the ECU School of Nursing.

MONDAY'S RESULTS

WOMEN'S GOLF

COUGAR CLASSIC: North Carolina is in sixth place and N.C. State in ninth after two rounds of the event at Hanahan, S.C.

Georgia led the 19-team event with a 9-under-par total of 567, followed by Virginia (4-over 580).

North Carolina was at 12-over 588 and N.C. State at 17-over 593, tied for ninth with Furman.

Georgia's Mallory Hetzel was the individual leader at 7-under 137. Four players were tied for second at 4-under 140.

North Carolina's Sydney Crane and Allie White were among a group of seven players tied for sixth at 2-under 142. N.C. State's Lauren Doughtie was in a six-way tie for 13th at even-par 144.

MEN'S GOLF

RON MOORE INVITATIONAL: Zak Drescher was tied for 21st individually and Campbell was in a tie for 10th after 36 holes at Denver.

Colorado (550) took a 16-stroke lead over second-place Air Force heading into today's final round. Campbell (296-297) was tied with Texas-El Paso for 10th place in the 17-school field at 593 strokes.
