N.C. State's first night game at its soccer stadium was a success.
Alan Sanchez scored two goals to lead the Wolfpack men's soccer team (1-3-1) to a 3-1 victory over VMI (0-4) on Tuesday night.

In other matches, Meredith (2-9, 0-1 USA South) beat N.C. Wesleyan (7-4, 1-0), 3-1; Peace lost 3-2 to Elizabeth City State; and Fayetteville State (9-7, 6-1 CIAA) blanked St. Augustine's (4-8, 4-3), 3-0.

CAMPBELL SETTLES FOR SEVENTH: Zak Drescher matched his collegiate career low round with a 6-under 66 for Campbell, which finished seventh at the Ron Moore Invitational in Denver with a three-round total of 872. Colorado won the event with an 825 total.
ECU PLACES FIFTH: East Carolina earned a fifth-place finish in the 18-team Raines Development Intercollegiate in Florence, S.C.
WOMEN'S GOLF
COUGAR CLASSIC: North Carolina finished third and N.C. State placed 11th in the 22-team event at Hanahan, S.C. The Tar Heels had a three-day total of 872. The Wolfpack finished at 901. Georgia won the event with an 858 total.

PACK HIRES ASSISTANT: N.C. State coach Lisa Navas announced the addition of assistant Jim Beitia to the Wolfpack coaching staff.

NCAA TELLS INDIANA TO WAIT: The NCAA has told Indiana University to wait until Sept. 26 to respond to the latest allegation that the school failed to monitor its men's basketball program. The response originally was due today.
