NOTESBASKETBALLDONOVAN SIGNS DEAL: Florida men's basketball coach Billy Donovan signed his six-year contract extension Friday, 16 months after he returned to Gainesville following a brief stint with the NBA's Orlando Magic.
The deal is worth more than $19.5 million before incentives.
Donovan, who is 285-115 in 12 seasons with the Gators, took the head coaching job with the Magic in May 2007 before returning to Florida a few days later after a much-publicized change of heart. He agreed in principle to the extension and earned about $3.1 million last season.
It was unclear what caused the long delay in signing the contract.
Donovan's compensation package will increase annually, from $3.1 million this season to $3.4 million in 2012-13, according to a copy of the contract obtained by The Associated Press.
If Donovan terminates the deal, he would have to pay as much as $500,000 to the school.
