Q&A with Fuquay-Varina coach Ryan Habich

Fuquay-Varina recorded its third straight shutout Friday night in a 20-0 Tri-Eight 4-A win over Lee County. The Bengals' only loss was 38-14 to undefeated Harnett Central on Aug. 29. Fuquay has allowed just 25 points in its other five games.

Who is playing well on defense? "Everybody, really. We have some young players that are stepping, and some veterans who are leading."

Who is the leading tackler? "Issac Minor at middle linebacker is averaging about 12 tackles per game. He is doing a nice job for us."

You're 2-0 in the Tri-Eight 4-A with wins over Panther Creek and Lee County. How do you see the league race? "We know our toughest league games are ahead of us. We've got Athens Drive this week, and with its offense, it can beat any team in the conference. Apex [4-2] is pretty much the favorite, but Middle Creek has been playing well, too."

You are averaging 268 yards rushing. Who is up front? "Tight end Kenny Weatherman, tackles Adam Tucker and John Matt, guards Robert Rhodes and Shawn Underwood and center Derek Williams. They are doing a good job."
