Eight months ago, a frustrated J.J. Redick asked to be traded after feeling he wouldn't ever be in the Orlando Magic's plans.
On Tuesday, an upbeat Redick discovered that he might have a future with the franchise.
The Magic picked up the team option on his contract, guaranteeing the third-year shooting guard from Duke a fourth season in 2009-10.
Redick would have become a restricted free agent at season's end if the Magic had not exercised the option at $2.8 million.
Coach Stan Van Gundy said that Redick is currently in his rotation. Redick was the first shooting guard off the bench in Monday night's preseason loss to the Atlanta Hawks, finishing with 12 points.
BAYLOR RESIGNS: Elgin Baylor is out as vice president of basketball operations with the Los Angeles Clippers, and coach Mike Dunleavy will assume his responsibilities as general manager.
Dunleavy said Baylor had decided to resign after spending 22 years as an executive with the team.
