BURNING QUESTION

How effective will Rod Brind'Amour be in his third game in four days? The team captain -- who scored in both games -- sat out of practice as a precautionary measure Sunday morning to rest his knee that was operated on last month.

CAROLINA

Comeback yields confidence

Though the Canes don't want to trail for the third game in a row, Saturday's win was special.

It was the first time the Canes won a road game after trailing by three goals since Nov. 5, 1998, according to Elias Sports Bureau records.

"You can always use that as confidence," coach Peter Laviolette said. "We can always say we've done this before. We've been here. We know how to do this."

DETROIT

Wings know how to rally, too

Detroit hasn't exactly had an easy time in its first two games. The Red Wings have started the year similar to the Canes: playing from behind.

After losing 3-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the season opener Thursday, the Wings scored late to defeat the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Johan Franzen scored two third-period goals, and the Wings beat Ottawa 3-2.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

CAM WARD, G

It's a big game for Ward, who had 29 saves in Friday's 6-4 victory over the Florida Panthers.

He's excited about the early- season test against one of the league's best. In the Hurricanes' last game against the Red Wings -- a 5-2 loss in December at Detroit -- Ward gave up all five goals.

HENRIK ZETTERBERG, C

The Red Wings' star center hasn't scored a goal in two games this season, but he has fired off 10 shots and had two assists.

During last season's playoffs, he set a team record for most points in one playoff year (13 goals, 14 assists, 27 points, plus-16 rating), and he won the Conn Smythe trophy.
