The Boston Red Sox are arguably one of the most beloved teams in professional sports.

Oh, sure, you could argue cases for the Chicago Cubs, the Dodgers, the Boston Celtics, the Montreal Canadiens and the Green Bay Packers, among others.

The lowest moment in franchise history likely hit on Oct. 25, 1986, against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. Game 6 of the World Series should have been the day the Babe Ruth Curse was cracked. The Mets won, 6-5, in 10 innings, but the Red Sox had three errors. The last error was committed by one of the top-fielding first basemen of his time, Bill Buckner, who allowed a game-ending/winning ground ball to pass through his legs. The Mets then won the decisive seventh game.

In the years since, the Red Sox have recovered famously. The "Jinx" was broken in 2004 with a Series sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals, then backed by another sweep, over the Colorado Rockies, last season. Many experts think the Sox are set to repeat in '08.
