The North Carolina field hockey team suffered the second-worst loss in program history Saturday, falling 7-0 to top-ranked Maryland in an ACC battle in College Park, Md.
The fifth-ranked Tar Heels dropped to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in ACC play, while Maryland improved to 15-2 overall and locked up the regular-season conference title with a 4-1 mark.
Maryland's Nicole Muracco scored an unassisted goal 11:41 into the game to put the Terps ahead for good.
UNC managed just five shots, four of them in the second half, after going into the game averaging more than 20 per outing.
The worst loss in UNC history came in the final game of the 1983 season, when the Tar Heels fell 8-0 to host Old Dominion in an NCAA Tournament second-round matchup.

CAMPBELL MEN WIN SOCCER TITLE: Richard Jata scored his fourth game-winning goal in his last four matches and Campbell defeated East Tennessee State 1-0 in Johnson City, Tenn., to clinch the Atlantic Sun Conference men's soccer regular-season title.
Campbell (10-5, 8-0 A-Sun) won its eighth straight game, while securing its second league regular-season trophy in the last four years. The Camels won the 2005 A-Sun regular-season title, and claimed the 2007 league tournament championship.
The Camels are unbeaten in their past 14 games against A-Sun men's soccer opponents (12-0-2) dating to a 3-2 setback at Lipscomb on Oct. 13, 2007.
MERCER WOMEN WIN SOCCER TITLE: Two second-half goals were the difference as Mercer defeated Campbell 2-0 in Buies Creek clinched the A-Sun regular-season championship.
The Bears improved to 10-4-3 on the season and 7-1-1 in conference play. The Camels fell to 4-9-3 for the year and 3-6-1 in the Atlantic Sun.
DUKES WIN IN WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Jourdan Norman connected on eight of her 11 attacks without committing and error and put down three blocks to lead Duke to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) win over Boston College in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
