Southern Miss loses QB Davis to injury

Southern Mississippi quarterback Austin Davis will miss the rest of the season after tearing a ligament in his left foot against UAB.

It was originally thought Davis hurt his foot or ankle when he went down early in the fourth quarter of the 30-17 loss Thursday night.

Redshirt junior Martevious Young will start Saturday against Louisville.

Potts out of hospital: Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts was released from a Lubbock hospital after being injured Saturday in a 48-28 victory over New Mexico.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Sunday that Potts had a concussion.

Virginia Tech 1, UNC 0: Host Virginia Tech rode a 10-save performance by goalkeeper Kristin Carden to a victory over No. 1 UNC.

UNC (10-1-1, 3-1 ACC) lost to an ACC school for the first time since at 1-0 loss at Miami on Sept. 30, 2007.

The Hokies (11-2, 4-0) got the goal in the 54th minute after UNC goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris was involved in a collision outside the penalty area, and Marika Gray scored into an empty net.

Maryland 4, Duke 0: No. 22 Maryland got first-half goals from Danielle Hubka, Molly Dreska and Jasmyne Spencer to dominate host Duke.

Maryland (9-2, 1-2 ACC) outshot Duke (4-5-3, 0-2-1) 16-7.

Boston College 2, N.C. State 1: Jillian MacNeil and Victoria DiMartino scored second-half goals to lead No. 6 Boston College over visiting N.C. State.

BC (10-2, 2-2 ACC) outshot N.C. State (7-4-1, 2-2) 17-5. Paige Dugal had the goal for State.

UCF 2, East Carolina 0: No. 21 UCF got second-half goals from Yvonne George and Nicolette Radovcic to defeat East Carolina in Greenville. The Pirates fell to 7-3-2, 2-2-0 C-USA. UCF is 8-3-1, 3-1-0.
