The parent Cincinnati Reds have named David Bell, who retired as a major-league baseball player following the 2006 season, the new manager of their Double-A farm club, the Carolina Mudcats. Bell, 36, will manage for the first time in the minor leagues.

The infielder played 12 seasons and 1,403 games in the majors with the Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers. In 1999, he hit 21 home runs and scored 92 runs for the Mariners. His grandfather, Gus, and father, Buddy, also played for the Reds.

The Reds named Chris Bosio the pitching coach, Ryan Jackson the hitting coach and Jimmy Mattocks the trainer.

Bosio, 45, will work in the Reds organization for the second straight season. He spent last year as the pitching coach at Chattanooga. The 11-year big league veteran compiled a 94-93 lifetime record and a 3.96 ERA in 309 games with Milwaukee and Seattle. On April 22, 1993, he pitched a no-hitter for the Mariners, beating the Boston Red Sox. Jackson, 36, has spent two years in the organization as the hitting coach at Single-A Sarasota. In an 11-year career, he spent parts of four seasons in the majors.
