WEST JOHNSTON * SENIOR * 1,000 METERS

Slatter won the state 1,000 meters in a time of 3:09.07, besting her closest competition by just over a quarter of a second and helping the Wildcats to an eighth-place finish overall. Here are some other talented indoor track athletes in the area:

LeaANNA GODWIN, ERWIN TRITON Senior; second in the state in the 1,000 meters but broke the state record with a time of 3:05.88.

ALLIE JOHNSON, ATHENS DRIVE Junior; qualified for the 55-meter hurdles.

VICTORIA ROBINSON, GREENVILLE ROSE Senior; 12th in 55-meter hurdles.

CHANTAL SCOTT, WAKEFIELD Junior; fifth in 55-meter hurdles.

ALEXIS SHERRILL, NORTHERN DURHAM Junior; fourth in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 0 inches.

ZAKIYA TYSON, DURHAM JORDAN Junior; seventh in 55-meter dash and third in 300.

JESSICA VAN HULST, MIDDLE CREEK Senior; seventh in the high jump.

ALONNA WILKES, SMITHFIELD-SELMA Senior; qualified for discus in the outdoor season and will compete in the shot put.

TIMMONS WILLIAMS, BROUGHTON Junior; took fifth in cross country and fourth in the outdoor 3,600 last spring.
