Five Florida State wide receivers will miss tonight's homecoming game against Boston College for their roles in a midweek campus fight, coach Bobby Bowden said Friday.

Taiwan Easterling, Bert Reed, Corey Surrency, Cameron Wade and Richard Goodman will sit out Saturday's crucial ACC contest in Tallahassee, Fla.

"The police report has not been concluded but from the information that I have gathered, I'm suspending five players who were apparently involved," Bowden said.

Maj. James Russell of the Florida State University Police Department said Bowden's decision was based on independent information obtained by the coach and that the department's investigation was going forward.

Russell said no arrests were imminent, but that he expected multiple charges sometime next week based on results from the investigation.

Russell had earlier said the melee apparently stemmed from bad blood between some of the athletes and members of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.

FIRST PORTION OF SBI REPORT ON ECU INCIDENT DELIVERED: Prosecutors say the State Bureau of Investigation has started to deliver a report on the confrontations between law enforcement officers and some East Carolina football fans earlier this season.

District Attorney Clark Everett told the Greenville Daily Reflector that he received the first portion of the SBI's investigative report Wednesday.

Fans rushed the field Sept. 6 after the Pirates defeated then-No. 8 West Virginia 24-3. Video showed fans being knocked to the ground by some officers and the university received complaints about police brutality on the field.

Everett said it will likely be weeks before he can draw any conclusions from the SBI's work.
