Butler High linebacker Hawatha Bell has committed to North Carolina.
Bell, a top 10 recruit in the state, said he chose the Tar Heels over Illinois.
"I felt comfortable there," Bell said. "I really liked the coaching staff and just the whole school and the fans. Honestly, I felt like I'd known the coaching staff for half my life. I was just happy up there."
Bell said he feels the Tar Heels are close to being a Bowl Championship Series contender and said coaches there told him that he'd have a chance to play all three linebacker positions.
With Bell's commitment, UNC coach Butch Davis has now locked up five of the top six recruits in the state, according to the Scout.com national recruiting service.
Fayetteville Britt lineman Xavier NIxon, the No. 1 recruit in the state, is considering the Tar Heels along with Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami (Fl), N.C. State and Notre Dame
Bell's Butler team (12-1) plays Independence (12-0) Friday at Memorial Stadium in a N.C. 4AA playoff game Friday night.
