SALTWATER

Oregon Inlet

Striped bass (rockfish) and big blues are being caught by boaters a few miles north of Oregon Inlet. No surf report.

Buxton/Hatteras

Surf anglers have caught a few trout north of The Point with black drum and flounder in the hook and on the south beaches. Offshore boaters are catching king mackerel and blackfin tuna.

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Surf anglers on Ocracoke are catching puppy drum, black drum, trout, sharks and skates. Portsmouth has had a few trout and sea mullet.

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Trout are mostly small. Red drum are being caught behind Bear Island. Bluefin tuna are being caught on both sides of the Knuckle Buoy. Some shad are being caught off the piers.

Topsail Island

The surf has yielded specks and black drum. The sound has red drum, flounder and specks. Offshore, the catch is snappers and black bass.

Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach

Kings and false albacore are hitting about 25 miles out. Bottom species are being caught as well.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Speckled trout are biting in the creeks, but the big story is the bluefin tuna bite, which is as good as it ever has been in the area.

FRESHWATER

Falls Lake

Jordan Lake

Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 217.9, full pool 240. Crappie are biting on or near the bottom in 20 to 35 feet of water. Jigs tipped with minnow are working best.

A 4-pound, 8-ounce largemouth bass highlighted the catches this week.

Shearon Harris Lake

A few largemouth bass are being caught in deeper water (up to 30 feet) by anglers vertical jigging with Hopkins, Castmaster, Silver Buddies and other metal jigs.
