The Associated Press

Alex Ovechkin says he was joking when he told a reporter over the weekend that he could be out more than a month.

The Washington Capitals star practiced lightly Monday and said he actually would miss about a week.

He hasn't played since leaving a Nov. 1 game against the Blue Jackets. The Capitals said last week that Ovechkin had an upper-body problem.

Coach Bruce Boudreau is hopeful Ovechkin will be ready by the weekend.

Penguins president recovering: Pittsburgh Penguins president David Morehouse is recovering from a heart attack in San Jose, Calif., where the team played its last game. A team spokesman said Morehouse had a "minor procedure" after the heart attack and is expected to make a full recovery.

Wild's Sykora out indefinitely: Minnesota Wild right wing Petr Sykora has a concussion and is out indefinitely.

Glencross suspended: The NHL suspended Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glencross for three games because of a high hit on the New York Rangers' Chris Drury.

Monday's results

Blackhawks 4, Kings 1: Jonathan Toews and Troy Brouwer scored power-play goals in a 3:31 span early in the third period for host Chicago.

Late Sunday

Oilers 5, Avalanche 3: Edmonton had four power-play goals as it handed Colorado its first home loss.
