Observations

Despite the absence of guard Nolan Smith (two-game NCAA suspension for playing in non-sanctioned summer games) and center Mason Plumlee (fractured wrist), today shouldn't be much of a challenge for Duke. UNC Greensboro was picked to finish fifth in the Southern Conference's North Division. The Spartans' top four scorers return, though, led by 6-foot-4 guard Mikko Koivisto of Finland, who needs 70 points to reach 1,000 for his career.

This game will provide an opportunity for an old friend of Mike Krzyzewski's to test his team against Duke.

UNC Greensboro coach Mike Dement got his start in college coaching as a graduate assistant to Krzyzewski in 1982-83.
