Niclas Bergfors had a goal and two assists and the New Jersey Devils closed within a victory of tying the NHL record of 10 consecutive road victories to start a season, beating the slumping Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 on Thursday night.

Zach Parise added a goal and an assist, Andy Greene and David Clarkson also scored, Travis Zajac had three assists, and Martin Brodeur made 25 saves.

The Devils can tie the road streak record Monday in Philadelphia.

New Jersey won its seventh in a row overall and, with 26 points, tied idle Washington for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby ended a five-game scoreless streak by assisting on Ruslan Fedotenko's goal in the first period, but still had a frustrating night as the Stanley Cup champions lost their fourth in a row.

Also Thursday

Panthers 1, Bruins 0 (SO): Tomas Vokoun stopped 40 shots for his third shutout of the season, and Cory Stillman scored in the shootout for visiting Florida.

Flyers 5, Senators 1: Ray Emery made 22 saves in his first start against his former team, and Danny Briere scored two goals to help host Philadelphia beat Ottawa.

Lightning 4, Wild 3 (SO): Ryan Malone tied it with 14.7 seconds left in regulation, and Vincent Lecavalier and Steven Stamkos scored in the shootout for host Tampa Bay.

Red Wings 3, Canucks 1: Henrik Zetterberg scored midway through the third period and Jimmy Howard made 31 saves for host Detroit.

Tomas Holmstrom and Niklas Kronwall also scored for Detroit.

Thrashers 5, Rangers 3: Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and two assists in his first game back from a foot injury, and Rich Peverley also had a goal and two assists for visiting Atlanta.

Predators 3, Blues 1: Jordin Tootoo scored on a wrist shot with 3:43 left to lift Nashville past host St. Louis.

Late Wednesday

Devils 3, Ducks 1: Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise each had a goal and an assist, Martin Brodeur made 31 saves, and New Jersey extended its winning streak to six games by beating visiting Anaheim.

Blackhawks 3, Avalanche 2 (SO): Patrick Sharp scored in the third shootout round, lifting Chicago over visiting Colorado in the third straight game between the teams decided in a tiebreaker.

Notes

Canucks disciplined: The NHL has suspended Vancouver forward Darcy Hordichuk one game and fined Canucks coach Alain Vigneault $10,000.

Hordichuk was assessed an instigator penalty after fighting Cam Janssen at 15:04 of the third period during Tuesday night's 6-1 loss to St. Louis. Janssen had roughed up Tanner Glass during a fight earlier in the game.

Leafs' Komisarek on IR: The Maple Leafs have placed Mike Komisarek on injured reserve because of a quadriceps injury and expect to be without their hard-hitting defenseman for up to three weeks.

Fehr to assist NHLPA search: Outgoing baseball union head Donald Fehr has agreed to assist the NHL Players' Association in its search for an executive director.

NHL reinstates Ducks owner: Henry Samueli has been reinstated as owner of the Anaheim Ducks after serving a suspension handed down by the NHL more than a year ago, when he pleaded guilty to a felony count of lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
