The Associated Press

A bad year for the Kansas Jayhawks just got worse.

The school said Tuesday that it is investigating an unspecified personnel issue involving coach Mark Mangino, the national coach of the year two seasons ago. And Mangino - his team mired in a five-game losing streak - conceded that he's lost the support of "some people around here."

Mangino was not present Monday night when athletic director Lew Perkins met with the entire football team.

The coach, who has been dogged by anger issues during his eight seasons at Kansas, met briefly with Perkins on Tuesday but neither would say what was discussed.

Mangino insisted he has not lost the support of his players, something that was echoed by quarterback and team leader Todd Reesing.

"I haven't lost the team, not one bit," Mangino said. "I may have lost some people around here but it's not players."

After a 5-0 start that shot them to No. 16 in the AP poll, the Jayhawks have lost five straight and will be huge underdogs this week at No. 3 Texas. They finish their regular season the next week against Missouri.

Mangino's contract runs through 2012.

Neither Mangino nor Perkins nor any Kansas players would disclose the specifics of the investigation. Mangino said it had to do with the disappointing season.

Glanville steps down: Former NFL coach Jerry Glanville has resigned as the Portland State head coach after three losing seasons.

This past season, Portland State went 2-9 overall and 1-7 in the Big Sky Conference. Over Glanville's tenure the Vikings went 9-24.

More trouble for Vols: A fourth Tennessee football player has been charged with breaking the law in the last two weeks.

Nyshier Oliver is facing a charge of shoplifting. The 18-year-old freshman defensive back was cited at 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 7. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Nov. 23.

Baseball

Blue Devils to play at DBAP: The Duke baseball team has reached an agreement with the Durham Bulls to play 18 home games in 2010 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The 2010 season will now mark the first time since 1931 that Duke will play home games outside of its home turf at Jack Coombs Field, located on campus. Jack Coombs Field, built in 1931, will still be in use by the Blue Devils for a number of home games and as a practice field.

Duke played 34 home games in the 2009 season.

"We have made great strides as a baseball program over the last four years; this move downtown both recognizes that progress and absolutely helps us in our mission to elevate the program further," said Duke head coach Sean McNally, now in his fifth year as head coach at his alma mater. "Opening Day at the DBAP for Duke baseball can't come soon enough."

Duke has not released their 2010 schedule.

Men's golf

Heels sign two: North Carolina has signed James Ellis of Greenville and Sean Jacklin, from Bradenton, Fla.

Ellis helped lead Kinston Parrott Academy to NCISAA state titles in 2007 and 2009 and was the '08 NCISAA 2-A individual state champion.

Jacklin, the 2009 Florida Junior Tour Champion, is the son of Tony Jacklin, champion of the 1969 British Open and the 1970 U.S. Open.
