Blue Devils rout Durham rivals

Joy Cheek scored 16 points to help No. 8 Duke defeat N.C. Central 117-28 on Monday night in the biggest women's basketball rout in school history.

Karima Christmas added 15 points for the Blue Devils (10-2), whose 89-point margin of victory was the sixth biggest in women's Divsion I basketball over the past 10 years according to STATS.

Alexis Rogers had 13 points for Duke, which scored the first 22 points of the game and closed the first half with another 22-0 run.

Duke ties for top spot

DURHAM - This time, with better communication, the Duke women's basketball team held off an opponent that somehow rallied from a big deficit.

Behind by 19 points with 16:50 remaining on Monday night, Boston College twice cut Duke's lead to six, forcing the Blue Devils to make free throws down the stretch and scramble on defense to pull out a 69-58 victory at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Cheek scores 21 to pace Blue Devils

Joy Cheek scored a career-high 21 points to help No. 7 Duke defeat No. 24 James Madison 79-65 on Friday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Jasmine Thomas added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (8-2), who pulled away on the strength of a 14-2 run early in each half. Keturah Jackson scored 10 points for Duke.

The Blue Devils, who led 44-34 at halftime, built their biggest lead at 70-47 on a leaner in the lane by Shay Selby with 8:40 remaining.

Thomas keys Devils past Buckeyes

There was a moment during the second half Thursday night when Duke's Jasmine Thomas launched a jump shot and seemed to turn her back toward the basket and head back upcourt before the ball splashed through the nets.

She knew it was good.

"I would say I was in a little bit of a zone," said Thomas, who scored 24 of her career-high 29 points in the second half to help the 11th-ranked Blue Devils upset third-ranked Ohio State before a mostly content crowd of 5,237 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Thomas' triple-double powers Devils' rout

Jasmine Thomas had 11 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists for the third triple-double in Duke women's history and the 10th-ranked Blue Devils beat Marquette 74-43 on Friday.

Thomas joined Monique Currie and Katie Meier as the only Blue Devils with triple-doubles.

"It is remarkable when I look at the stat sheet and I see a triple-double by Jasmine," Duke coach Joanne P. Mc Callie said. "It takes that kind of heart and hustle she played with [tonight]."
