Virginia Tech gets 10th win

Malcolm Delaney scored 16 of his 17 points in the first half to lead Virginia Tech to a 71-34 victory over the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Tuesday night at Blacksburg, Va.

The win was Tech's seventh straight, marking the Hokies longest winning streak since 1996.

Delaney scored eight of Tech's first 14 points, as the Hokies (10-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead from the onset. They held the Retrievers without a point until Chris De La Rosa hit a short jumper with 10:55 remaining in the half.

UNC's defense headlines All-ACC team

UNC placed four players on the first-team All-ACC defense while Duke and N.C. State placed one player each on the first-team offense.

Defensive end Richard Quinn, linebacker Quan Sturdivant, cornerback Kendric Burney and safety Deunta Williams made first-team for the Tar Heels, which led the ACC in total and scoring defense.

Duke receiver Donovan Varner and N.C. State tight end George Bryan were also voted first team by the 40 voting members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Gators chosen No. 1

As Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators prepare to make a run at their third national title in the last four seasons, the defending champions have already made some history.

Florida is No. 1 in The Associated Press' preseason Top 25 released Saturday, followed by Texas, Oklahoma, Southern California and Alabama. But the Gators are in a class by themselves, the most overwhelming preseason No. 1 in the history of the media poll.

Florida received 58 of the 60 first-place votes, or 96.7 percent. Texas got the other first-place votes.
