Giants pound hapless Skins

The New York Giants kept themselves in the playoff hunt Monday night with a 45-12 rout of the Washington Redskins.

The Giants were efficient and dominant in one of the most lopsided victories in the long, storied series against their NFC East rival.

New York led 24-0 at halftime and scored on six of its first seven possessions.

Lawrence Tynes sent home the largest crowd in NFL regular-season history muttering about what might've been.

Rivers, a former N.C. State star, capped an 80-yard drive with an 18-yard pass to Vincent Jackson with 21 seconds to play, and the San Diego Chargers stunned the Giants 21-20 on Sunday, posting their third straight win while handing New York its fourth straight loss.

San Diego (5-3) is well positioned for the second half of the season. The Giants (5-4) can only shake their heads in disbelief after blowing their first 5-0 start since 1990.

They added something just as valuable, a healthy Osi Umenyiora, and he's as good as ever.

Returning from a major knee injury that wiped out his 2008 season, Umenyiora scored on a 37-yard fumble return after knocking a ball loose on a sack in leading the Giants to a 23-17 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
