A new tactic for Terrell Owens: instead of talking, he wrote a note.
Even Owens apparently knows the Dallas Cowboys' game Sunday against fellow unbeaten New England doesn't need any extra hype.
In place of the usually talkative receiver, reporters found at Owens' locker Wednesday a nearly poster-sized, typewritten note:
"Dear Reporters,
"Due to the magnitude of this week's game and high volume of questions for the Original 81 about the other 81. I will be taking all questions immediately following Sunday's game.
"Sincerely, (followed by Owens' signature)
"p.s. Getcha Popcorn Ready."
The "other 81" was an obvious reference to Randy Moss, the five-time Pro Bowl receiver who after two difficult years in Oakland is flourishing in his first season with the Patriots.
Owens' postscript referred to his "get your popcorn ready" comment made when he signed with the Cowboys in the summer of 2006 -- before he caught an NFL-high 13 TDs in first season.
BUCS SIGN CROCKETT: Zack Crockett has three qualities Tampa Bay was looking for in a backup running back: versatility, experience and familiarity with coach Jon Gruden's offense.
The Buccaneers signed the 13th-year pro on Wednesday, addressing a need for depth after losing Carnell "Cadillac" Williams and Michael Pittman to injury.
Crockett, 34, is familiar with Gruden's version of the West Coast offense after playing for him in Oakland.
BRIEFLY: Michael Vick's old jersey has been removed from his high school's trophy case because of his conviction on a federal dogfighting charge. Vick played from 1996-97 at Warwick High in Newport News, Va.
* Damon Huard's injured shoulder held up fine in practice Wednesday and he will be Kansas City's starting quarterback Sunday against Cincinnati.
* Atlanta Falcons right tackle Todd Weiner had knee surgery Wednesday and will miss at least two weeks, leaving the team with two rookie starters for Monday night's game against the Giants.
* Right tackle Willie Anderson will be sidelined for the Cincinnati Bengals' game Sunday in Kansas City, ending his streak of 116 consecutive starts.
