Campbell University, which is reviving its football program, has accepted an invitation to join the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League and released its 2008 schedule.
Campbell becomes the ninth member of the league, joining Butler, Davidson, Dayton, Drake, Jacksonville, Morehead State, San Diego and Valparaiso.
PFL teams compete in a round-robin schedule.
The league, which recently completed its 15th season, says it has taken a leadership role nationally in fielding non-scholarship Division I football programs.
“One of our greatest challenges in bringing football back to Campbell University was in finding a conference home,” Campbell athletics director Stan Williamson said in a statement released by the university. “The Pioneer Football League is the perfect conference home for Campbell Football. We will be competing against similar institutions that compete at the same level of college football.”
