* Ted Roof served as interim head coach for the final five games (2-3) in 2003. Duke did not field a team from 1895 to 1919. Duke was a member of the Southern Conference from 1930 to 1952 and joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1953.

Duke falls in Belk Bowl

Duke (6-7) lost to Cincinnati (10-3) 48-34 in the Dec. 27 Belk Bowl.

Prior to this game, Duke University had not played in a bowl since 1995 and had not won in postseason play since beating Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl in 1961.

Duke's first bowl games was the 1939 Rose Bowl against No. 7 Southern California. No. 3 Duke had gone undefeated in 1938, but lost the game in Pasadena 7-3.

The Blue Devils' overall bowl record is 3-6.
