OWASA BOARD TO MEET
Residents of Chapel Hill and Carrboro may get news about a reduction in their water restrictions and rates late next week.
It's likely the board of the Orange Water and Sewer Authority will consider moving from Stage 3 to Stage 2 restrictions when it meets April 10, said Ed Kerwin, executive director of the utility.
The agenda has not yet been set, and there is no recommendation at this time from staff to make that move, Kerwin cautioned. But the reservoirs were 61 percent full as of Tuesday morning, and he expected that percentage to rise by today considering a good stream flow and the additional rain Tuesday.
In February, when the board moved to Stage 3 restrictions, it accepted an informal guideline to consider going back to Stage 2 if the reservoirs were 60 percent full by April 1.
Typically at this time of year the reservoirs are full or nearly full, Kerwin said.
