Three-time violators of the city's water conservation rules could be fined $400.City Council members expressed no objections to the proposal Thursday, though a vote enacting the fine likely won't come until their next meeting, Nov. 19.Durham's current ordinance calls for a written warning on the first confirmed report of breaking rules. The second results in a notice of violation, and the third means termination of service. The $400 fine would be levied as a service reconnection fee.The ordinance revision also would deputize all city employees to report water violations.At last check, Durham had 72 days of water in its main supply.
