A Statesville man injured during a storm system that destroyed his home and killed at least 10 other people in North Carolina has died, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Lawrence Thurston, 62, died Sunday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was injured Nov. 15 when a tornado struck his family's mobile home and left him underneath a refrigerator.

Thurston shared the home with his wife and 15-year-old granddaughter.

Early Nov. 16, the same storm system pushed through the community of Armour about 20 miles northwest of Wilmington. A tornado there killed eight people and destroyed several mobile homes.

Two other people in North Carolina died in traffic accidents blamed on the weather.
