Emma Whitaker Powell and Robert Bryson Pike II were united in marriage on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at five o’clock in Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington, North Carolina. The Reverend Samuel Gregory Jones officiated the ceremony and Mr. Jonathan David Vance gave the homily. A reception followed at the river home of the bride’s parents. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at Elmwood 1820, and friends and family of the couple hosted a wedding eve celebration at the North Carolina Estuarium. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Whitaker Powell of Raleigh. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. David Thomas Tayloe IV of Washington, NC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Allen Thurman Powell, junior, of Ahoskie, NC. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bryson Pike of Nashville, NC. He is the grandson of Mrs. Barbara Nichols Mitchell and the late Dr. Norman Edward Mitchell, senior of Nashville, NC and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Connor Pike of Pocomoke City, MD. The bride was escorted by her father. The bride’s cousins, Claire Duff Capps of Raleigh, and Mary Rosser Kimbrough Tayloe of Wilmington, served as matron and maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Casey Pike Parvin of Raleigh, sister of the groom; Laura Kline Tayloe of Wilmington; Claire Hunter Duff, Morgan Kate Edrington, Kensington Rebekah Luck, Gabrielle Craig Frantz, and Alexandra Price Enroughty all of Raleigh; Laura Parker Gulledge of Washington DC; Christine Chandler Black of Nashville, TN; and Mary Chandler Cohen of Charlotte, NC. Lillyanne Mei Pike of Nashville, sister of the groom was the junior bridesmaid. Molly Nicholls Parvin and Claudia Elizabeth Parvin of Raleigh, the groom’s nieces, and Hanlon Catherine Tayloe of Wilmington, the bride’s cousin served as flower girls. Greeters were Lauren Knight Pike of Nashville, sister-in-law of the groom and Catherine Darden Callaway of Chapel Hill. Scripture was read by Ryal Woodall Tayloe, senior, of Wilmington, the bride’s uncle and Robert William Parvin of Raleigh, the groom’s brother-in-law. The groom’s father, Robert Bryson Pike, served as the best man. He is an attorney with Narron, O’Hale & Whittington, P.A. Following a honeymoon trip to Little St. Simons Island, the couple will reside in Smithfield.
