Smith - Lawrence

Katie Creel Lawrence and Rhett Michael Smith were united in marriage on Saturday, July 18th, 2015 at six o’clock at First United Methodist Church in Morehead City, North Carolina. The Reverend Powell Osteen officiated the ceremony. A reception followed at the Coral Bay Club in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Reed Lawrence, Junior of Smithfield, North Carolina. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. James Reed Lawrence and the late Lieutenant Colonel James Reed Lawrence of Dunn, North Carolina and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Penn Montgomery of Opelika, Alabama.

The groom is the son of Doctor and Mrs. William Everett Smith of Smithfield, North Carolina. He is the grandson of Mrs. Eugene Gibson Plyler and the late Mr. Eugene Gibson Plyler of Fayetteville, North Carolina and the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Garland Smith of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. Jane Franklin Royall of Durham, North Carolina served as the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Olivia Grace Becilla, Lauren Beatty Chadwick, Murray Elizabeth Dees, Lida Taylor Pace, Courtney Scruggs Sorrells and Caroline Cross Williams of Raleigh, North Carolina, Charlotte Courtney Egerton and Julia Lorentz Stearns Fariss of New York, New York and Elizabeth Burton Fleming of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Isabelle Montgomery Lawrence of Birmingham, Alabama, niece of the bride, served as the flower girl.

The groom’s father served as the best man. Groomsmen were Kevin Palmer Smith of Clayton, North Carolina, brother of the groom, James Reed Lawrence III, of Birmingham, Alabama and Penn Montgomery Lawrence of Charlotte, North Carolina, brothers of the bride, Benjamin Lee Boger of Greenville, North Carolina, Carvus Andrew Byrd, IV of Lexington, Kentucky, Samuel Warren Fincher of Washington, D.C., Brian Raymond Hewitt of Arlington, Virginia, Benton Grey Sawrey of Clayton, North Carolina, Matthew Ryan Stillwagon of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Jeremy Samuel Wilkes of Greenville, North Carolina.

James Reed Lawrence, IV of Birmingham, Alabama, nephew of the bride, served as the ring bearer.

Amber Winifred Johnson of Greenville, North Carolina and Erin Marett Smith of Clayton, North Carolina served as scripture readers. Greeters were Elizabeth Hewitt Johnson, Jane Ivey Johnson and Lillian Wade Johnson of Smithfield, North Carolina.

The bride graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield, North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was presented by the Terpsichorean Club at the 2007 North Carolina Debutante Ball. She is employed by the office of Congressman George Holding in Washington, D.C.

The groom graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield, North Carolina and North Carolina State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He teaches at the Alice Deal Middle School in Washington, D.C.

Following a honeymoon in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Washington, D.C.
