David Menconi has been with The News & Observer as a music critic and arts reporter since 1991. Before that, he spent five years at the Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder, Colo. He has a masters degree in journalism from the University of Texas and an English degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Menconi has also written for salon.com, The New York Times and Rolling Stone; and published two books, most recently the biography “Ryan Adams: Losering, A Story of Whiskeytown” (University of Texas Press, 2012).
Roy C. Dicks has been a performing arts correspondent for The N&O since 1997, writing reviews and previews of theater, dance and classical music. Previously, he was performing arts critic for the former weekly Spectator in Raleigh for eight years. Dicks has theater and English degrees from East Carolina University and a masters degree in library science from UNC-Chapel Hill. He acted in 65 productions, directed 34 and co-founded Raleigh Ensemble Players, a theater company he co-managed for 10 years. He also worked for 27 years as reference librarian for Wake County Libraries.
