Touring now: “Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage”
The buzz: This is the musical version of the popular 1987 film with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. The musical re-creates all the scenes that the film’s fans love and has all the favorite songs, including “Time of My Life,” “Hungry Eyes” and “Do You Love Me?”
Watch for: The high-energy chemistry between Samuel Pergande (Johnny) and Jillian Mueller (Baby) as they rehearse and perform, and the creative use of video projections to add realistic backdrops.
About the tour: The musical began a decade ago with a sold-out run in Australia and had a five-year run in London, but has not yet played Broadway. This tour started in Washington, D.C., and Durham is the second stop on the 30-city schedule, giving Triangle audiences a chance to see it before most of the U.S.
