Touring now: “Nice Work If You Can Get It”

The buzz: Tony Award-winning playwright Joe DiPietro created this “new” George and Ira Gershwin musical, weaving a 1920s storyline around 20 existing songs, including “ ’S Wonderful,” “Fascinating Rhythm” and the title number. The plot follows soon-to-be-married Jimmy and his sudden crush on bootlegger Billie, helping hide her illegal product in his Long Island beach house.

Watch for: The bubble-bath ballet in “Delishious”; the dueling mash-up between a duchess and a gangster combining waltz (“By Strauss”) and jazz (“Sweet and Lowdown”).

About the tour: Following the show’s 16-month run on Broadway, this first national tour premiered in September 2014. Wilmington native Barbara Weetman plays the featured role of Millicent, Jimmy’s mother.

Where to see it: Memorial Auditorium, Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 East South St., Raleigh

When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and Jan. 25; 2 p.m. Saturday and Jan. 25.

Tickets: $25-$95
