Following last year’s uber-successful bluegrass gathering in Raleigh, the city and the International Bluegrass Music Association are looking forward to an equally spectacular weekend celebrating the musical legacy of Bill Monroe. Friday and Saturday, “Wide Open Bluegrass” brings to downtown Raleigh a dizzying array of musical acts from across the spectrum of contemporary bluegrass. Friday’s highlights at Red Hat Amphitheatre include the ever-entertaining Hot Rize and their alter-ego swing band, Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers, the Gibson Brothers, and a superstar Wide Open jam featuring Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Bryan Sutton, Edgar Meyer, and Stuart Duncan. On Saturday, the Grascals, Del McCoury Band, and Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby with Kentucky Thunder are among the top acts. Check out nando.com/bluegrass for more details.
