The Durham Symphony Orchestra, led by William Henry Curry, presents a Nina Simone Hayti Tribute Concert on Sunday, honoring the legendary singer, songwriter and activist who was native of Tryon, North Carolina. The program will also include music by some of Simone’s favorite classical composers.
The symphony promises a concert that “will celebrate Simone’s artistry and life with the help of her greatest hits, excerpts from the Emmy award-winning film ‘What Happened, Miss Simone?’ and the jazz stylings of the incomparable Yolanda Rabun.”
The concert begins at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham. Tickets are $10-$35 with children 12 and under admitted free. Get all the details at durhamsymphony.org.
